Sara Alatorre is a student at the Jordon College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at California State University, Fresno (CSUF). She is senior, majoring in Plant Science with an emphasis in Plant Health, and will graduate May 2013.
Her research projects have focused on weed management in fruits and vegetables for both conventional and organic cropping systems. As a student research assistant to Dr. Anil Shrestha, professor of weed science at CSUF, she also participated in research trials evaluating conservation tillage applications in tomato and cotton. Sara held an internship with Morning Star Co. researching the physiology and nutrient management in processing tomatoes under greenhouse conditions.
She serves the community through the CSUF Plant Science Club, California Women for Agriculture, and through her church.
She plans on earning a master’s degree in Plant Science. Her goal is to serve farmers by conducting research to improve the efficiency of cropping systems.
